What are sauna cesspools used for?
The purpose of a sauna cesspool is to soak the washing water coming from the sauna into the ground. A sauna cesspool captures the solid particles and guides the water into the ground through openings in the pool. The pool can only be used if the ground absorbs water well and the level of groundwater is at least 1,2 m lower than the bottom of the pool. Sauna cesspools are also suitable for soaking rainwater into the ground. It is important to note that sauna cesspools are not meant for collecting wastewater from WCs.

Where are sauna cesspools used?
Sauna cesspools are installed in the vicinity of a sauna and their purpose is to soak the water coming from the sauna into the soil. If there is a body of water near the sauna, it is important to make sure that the sauna cesspool would be at least 10 m away from the body of water when choosing a location for it. It is also important to inspect the soil. Does the soil at the desired location of the sauna cesspool absorb water well?
How to install a sauna cesspool?
A trench must be dug for the sauna cesspool, ensuring that the bottom of the trench is 850 mm below the inlet pipe. Smooth the floor of the trench. You may spread a 3–5 cm thick layer of sand on the floor of the trench to level it. This will improve the purification properties of the soakaway area and prevent the wastewater from absorbing into the groundwater too fast. Then fill the floor of the pit with a 200 mm thick layer of gravel. Crushed stone or lightweight aggregate may also be used. Place the sauna cesspool on the gravel and continue filling the hole. Gravel should extend to a height of at least 300 mm from the bottom of the trench. From there you may continue filling the hole with the soil dug out of the trench. Once you have reached the inlet coupling, connect the cesspool to the intake and air pipes and seal the surroundings of the pipes. Fill the trench to the brim and cut the tip of the protruding vertical pipe at the desired height.
